Legacy Goblins kicked at

After a decent performance at the Legacy tournament on 16th of October where my Legacy Goblins were kicking it, it was the other way around this Sunday as my Goblins were kicked at.

The only match I won was against a friend of mine on Eldrazi Stompy, and even that was thanks to his greedy keep as he was mana screwed in Game 3. I also won against BYE as I always do, but that’s another story we are all familiar with. I was literally stomped by another Eldrazi deck in the second round, and while he did say he had the nut draws, I felt powerless. Then I went on to face two Stoneblade decks (Bant and 4c, lost both 1 – 2), and saw enough Stoneforge Mystic, Batterskull, Umezawa’s Jitte and Sword of Fire and Ice to feed a whole village for a month (if we sold those cards, and they are not even expensive for Legacy standards). Either way I was feeling the pain of those cards, especially Sword and Jitte, and when I got to play Death & Taxes in Round 5, I had enough. I lost 0 to 2, even after turn 1 Lackey in Game 2 and connecting four times, but had a nice draw of no Goblins so I was able to cheat only one Warchief, and that was it. I got only lands and removal so it took a while for my opponent to get a broad presence, but once his equipments started to hit, it was game. I even got to play a Ringleader with no hits, but that happens and there is not much I could do at that spot.

With all those fair (khm Stoneforge khm) decks running around, I should have played three Shatter Goblins in the main, not only a single Tuktuk Scrapper. Joke aside, it might be that I’m an inexperienced (bad) pilot, or was it just tough luck, or maybe my deck just sucks, or my mulliganing stinks, but probably it’s a mix of those reasons. Reality is that Goblins are not as easy to play as I thought, so I should just continue to play more. There are many decisions with tutoring and Vial counters, and I can even remember some plays that were sketchy (obviously). It’s also important to know when to Wasteland, and what to target. Anyhow, here is the deck I sleeved:

Next Legacy tournament is scheduled for 29th of January, so there is time to prepare. I might try another version of Goblins (Warren Instigator), but lets wait and see. I like Ports too much to just give up on them, and Winstigator decks tend to cut them, sometimes even to no copies.
